The Other Lamb


“The Other Lamb” is produced by IFC Midnight, and I watched it on Hulu. The film revolves around a cult comprising numerous women and girls, led by a man known as the Shepherd. The Shepherd occasionally engages in romantic relationships with the women and often claims to be their savior from the outside world. Throughout the movie, they repeatedly depict dead lambs, symbolically associating them with menstruation and blood contamination.

Tragedy strikes when one of the women dies in childbirth and is ceremonially buried in a manner reminiscent of a Viking funeral pyre. As the older women grow too old, they are ritualistically drowned in a river. When law enforcement intervenes to expose the cult, they discover the Shepherd and the others dead near a waterfall. It can be inferred that Cella and a few others managed to escape to the river, as the film concludes with them holding a lamb under the waterfall.

I would rate this movie 4/10.

Cleaning Lady

“Cleaning Lady” is an RJLE Film that was based on a short film of the same name. It begins with Alice and Michael in bed after sleeping together. Michael is married, while Alice is in sex addiction therapy, trying to move on from Michael since she doesn’t want to be a home-wrecker. She encounters a clogged bathtub in her apartment and calls for maintenance, leading her to meet Shelly.

Shelly, a maintenance worker, fixes Alice’s sink, and Alice offers her a job which Shelly accepts. Shelly, who bears severe facial scars from a traumatic incident in her youth when she was attacked and raped by a man (who she later stabbed), becomes increasingly fixated on Alice. This fixation starts with Shelly watching Alice while she bathes. Eventually, Shelly drugs Alice and creates a mask of her face to resemble her. It’s worth noting that Shelly has her mother chained up in her living quarters within a junkyard.

The movie is a highly intense psychological thriller, and it’s fascinating to experience a horror film that doesn’t rely on supernatural elements or creatures. It features some genuinely gruesome moments, such as when Shelly pours acid down Michael’s throat.

Devil

Devil is a movie by Universal Pictures, with the “Story By” credit going to M. Night Shyamalam. It’s definitely a thriller… It starts off with cops investigating a man who jumped from a high-rise office building – and then the elevator got stuck. There was what they called the “devil” in the elevator where whenever the lights would go out, one person would get injured or killed. This movie obviously had a lower budget, but they did have some great action scenes. It was also fun to try to figure out who was “the bad one in the elevator (the devil).” The movie was a bit cheesy at times and sometimes the story felt a little convoluted. Everyone in the elevator had a criminal record – such as a thug – and also a person who had a history of blackmail and murder. So… it was said in the movie that “they deserved it” – which I thought was kind of screwed up.

This movie is on Amazon Prime and I will give the movie a 4/10.

The Farm

“The Farm” is a 2018 horror movie produced by Red Dog Films. The film revolves around a road trip gone awry, leading the travelers to a farm with a horrifying secret: instead of farming animals, this farm cultivates people for sinister purposes. Throughout the movie, I couldn’t help but feel that it served as a commentary on modern-day commercial animal farming practices. Notably, the film portrays women being treated like livestock, confined in small cages and subjected to milking. The chilling climax of the film depicts the girlfriend of the road-tripping couple and her friend being roasted on a table with apples in their mouths.

The story follows the couple on their way to California, with an unexpected stopover in a town where they seek a place to spend the night. They unwittingly stay at a cabin that leads to their capture by the farm’s sinister inhabitants. Nora, one of the protagonists, is forcibly impregnated for future milking. Men in the film are farmed for human “beef” once they can no longer be milked. The inn’s manager is revealed as the mastermind behind the farm’s operations. All the farm’s inhabitants wear eerie animal masks and refuse to speak. Furthermore, they serve human meat at a cafe featured earlier in the movie.

In my opinion, “The Farm” is a captivating and thought-provoking horror film. It offers a unique and unsettling narrative that encourages viewers to contemplate its underlying themes. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys unconventional horror movies that provoke thought.
