The Quarry

A cinematic survival horror full of gnarly creatures, intense choices, and one deeply unsettling tarot reader.

Genre: Survival Horror / Interactive Drama
Platform: Played on PlayStation 5

Review:

The Quarry is a survival horror game I played on my PlayStation 5, developed by Supermassive Games and published by 2K—and wow, it’s a wild, creepy ride from start to finish. Think teen slasher movie meets choose-your-own-nightmare, all wrapped in gorgeous next-gen graphics and some seriously weird vibes.

The story unfolds over ten chapters and an epilogue, and while the game isn’t super long, it absolutely packs in the tension. The Quick Time Events (QTEs) are no joke—they’re fast, frequent, and keep you locked in. Every decision you make can change who lives, who dies, and who ends up horribly mutated in the woods, so choose wisely.

Let’s talk about the creatures for a second: disturbing, unique, and super memorable. And then there’s the tarot-reading woman who pops up between chapters—honestly, she’s scarier than the monsters. Her whole vibe was so unsettling, I couldn’t look away.

The game plays like an interactive horror film, and while it leans more on story than gameplay, that’s part of its charm. It’s intense, creepy, and definitely replayable if you want to explore different choices and endings.

Overall, The Quarry delivers great scares, twisted paths, and some unforgettable visuals. A perfect game for horror fans who love storytelling and consequences.

My Rating: 7/10!

Starry Eyes

A slow-burn scream-fest that spirals into satanic body horror with style.

Genre: Horror, Psychological, Body Horror
Platform: Watched on Tubi

Starry Eyes is a psychological horror movie I watched on Tubi, and while it starts off slow, it definitely rewards your patience. The story follows Sarah, a struggling actress trying to make it big in Hollywood—and let’s just say, she gets a role that changes everything. The whole transformation arc gave me serious Haitian zombie folklore vibes, which was a super unique angle I didn’t expect.

I’ll admit, I was kind of bored at first… but once Sarah attends the audition for this creepy horror movie, it all clicks—and spirals into madness. That’s when the film really finds its groove. Things go downhill fast after she unknowingly gets wrapped up in a satanic cult, and the body horror that follows is disturbing in all the right ways.

The CGI and practical effects were solid, and the overall atmosphere was eerie and immersive. The film leans heavily into themes of desperation, ambition, and transformation—both physical and psychological—and I couldn’t look away.

Overall, Starry Eyes is a great pick for horror fans who love slow-burn cult horror with a gooey, gory payoff.

My Rating:7.5/10

Rise of Ronin

A deeply engaging action game with vast customization, beautiful exploration, and challenging mechanics.

Genre: Action, RPG
Platform: Played on PlayStation 5
Review:
Rise of Ronin is an action-packed RPG that I played on my PlayStation 5, and it was an incredible journey through a world full of history, customization, and intense challenges. You play as a Ronin (a masterless samurai) where you can choose to be either male or female, and there’s an impressive amount of character customization. From weapon choices to armor options, you have a ton of freedom to tailor your character to suit your preferred playstyle.
The game’s quests are engaging and varied, with a strong emphasis on exploration. There’s a lot to discover, from collecting cats and petting adorable dogs to uncovering the deep lore of the world. While the romance options are a fun addition, they don’t drastically change the main storyline — it’s more of a nice touch rather than a game-changing mechanic.
I spent around ninety hours on the game, diving into some side quests, though I was mostly focused on the main story. There’s always something to do, whether it’s exploring beautiful landscapes, fighting enemies, or uncovering hidden treasures.
The game’s mechanics were well done, but it definitely leans on the challenging side. Even on “easy” mode, I found myself getting frustrated a few times — especially during intense combat sequences. There were a couple of glitches along the way, like when enemies would meet unfortunate fate and their heads would bounce around (which was a bit odd, but not game-breaking).
Despite these small annoyances, the story and the overall experience were fantastic. The game offers a lot of depth, and it kept me coming back for more. The exploration and character building make it a game worth investing in, especially for fans of challenging action RPGs.
My Rating: 8/10

The Nun 2

A spooky sequel with familiar faces, creepy creatures, and chilling jump scares.

Genre: Horror
Platform: Watched on HBO Max

Review:

The Nun 2 picks up where the first movie left off, with Frenchie carrying the demon nun Valak inside him. Sister Irene returns, joined by a new nun companion, to face the evil lurking once again. While Valak doesn’t show up as often as in the first film, there are still some solid scares and even a creepy goat creature thrown into the mix.

It’s an interesting addition to The Conjuring universe, though it doesn’t quite hit the same high notes as the first Nun movie. The jump scares are decent, and the story wraps up with a somewhat happy ending, but it felt a bit less intense overall. And yes, if you remember the first movie — Valak’s possession of Frenchie with that disturbing tongue scene still lingers.

Overall, it’s an okay horror flick for fans of the franchise, but I’d recommend it for adults due to the spooky vibes and darker themes.

Naughty Elf: Sparkle

A magical, mischievous, and heartwarming holiday romance!

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Author: Colbie Dunbar

Review:
Naughty Elf: Sparkle is a super sweet and magical paranormal romance that I couldn’t put down! Part of Santa’s Naughty Elf Mates series, this book follows Sparkle, a Christmas elf with a mischievous streak, and Dan, a human accountant who never expected a magical visitor to turn his life upside down.

Sparkle, who works at the North Pole sewing toys and decorations, gets himself into trouble after pranking the reindeer shifters. As punishment, he’s kicked out of the North Pole and somehow ends up in Dan’s yard. But here’s where it gets really fun—once Dan brings a mysterious gnome inside, Sparkle turns back into his elf form! What follows is a whirlwind romance filled with magic, humor, and lots of holiday warmth.

One of the most unique aspects of this book is the male pregnancy element—yep, Sparkle is the one who carries their child, and they end up with the most adorable daughter named Holly. It’s such a fun and different take on holiday romance, packed with action, sweetness, and a little bit of chaos (in the best way possible).

My Rating: 9/10

If you’re in the mood for a festive, quirky, and heartwarming paranormal romance, Naughty Elf: Sparkle is a must-read! It’s got magic, humor, love, and the perfect amount of holiday cheer.

Hades

A fiery, fast-paced rogue-lite filled with heart, humor, and divine chaos.

Genre: Rogue-lite, Action, Mythology
Platform: Played on PlayStation 5

Review:

Hades is a rogue-lite action game that I played on my PlayStation 5, and wow—what an incredible ride! Developed by Supergiant Games, it takes place in the underworld where you play as Zagreus, the rebellious son of Hades, trying to escape the depths of Hell. Every level brings a fresh environment, unique enemies, and tons of colorful, fully-voiced characters to meet, befriend… or romance. 😉

Even though it’s set in the underworld, the art style is absolutely beautiful—vibrant, stylish, and full of life (and death). The environments and animations are eye-catching, and the character designs are top-tier.

There’s so much content in this game—between all the godly boons, storylines, character interactions, and unlockables, you can keep playing well after you beat the main story. And if you’re like me and don’t want to rage-quit constantly, the God Mode setting is a lifesaver. It lets you focus more on the rich narrative and juicy character development while still feeling like you’re earning every win.

The writing is witty, the voice acting is phenomenal, and there are thousands of tiny moments that make the whole experience feel deeply personal and rewarding.

Overall, Hades is a fantastic rogue-lite with heart, action, and a ton of replayability. Highly recommended to anyone who loves a challenge with a little mythological flair!

Villains

Breaking into the wrong house never looked this darkly hilarious.

Genre: Comedy Horror
Platform: Watched on Tubi

Review:

Villains is a horror-comedy gem I caught on Tubi, and let me tell you—it was a weird little rollercoaster in the best way. The story follows a criminal couple, Mickey and Jules, who break into a house after pulling off a gas station robbery. But surprise! This is not your average suburban home.

Inside, they find a creepy couple who are way off their rockers—the wife treats a doll like a real baby, and the husband is just plain unsettling. Things escalate quickly once our “villains” discover a real child trapped in the basement, and suddenly, the robbers don’t seem like the bad guys anymore.

Despite a few cringe moments here and there (and a very questionable decision to have the villain stand back up after being run over—like c’mon), I found it super entertaining. The acting was great, the humor was weird but worked, and the story had enough twists to keep me hooked. I especially loved that Jules made it out and saved the girl, even if Mickey didn’t survive—RIP, you chaotic cinnamon roll.

Overall, Villains is twisted, funny, dark, and surprisingly sweet in its own weird way. A solid horror comedy with just the right amount of bite.

My Rating:7/10

Yakuza Kiwami

A gripping action RPG with an engaging story and intense combat, though the confusing maps can occasionally break the immersion.

Genre: Action, RPG
Platform: Played on Playstation 5

Review:

Yakuza Kiwami is an action combat RPG I played on my Playstation 5, and let me tell you—it’s an incredible experience. The story is absolutely gripping, pulling you in from start to finish, and keeping you hooked with its twists and turns. There are tons of side stories, missions, and mini-games to dive into, making sure you’re never bored as you progress through the main plot. Plus, you can keep playing even after the main story wraps up, which is awesome.

You play as Kiryu, who is just an amazing character—he’s tough, honorable, and totally kicks butt in every fight. The combat is fun, and while I played on easy mode to focus more on the story, I still enjoyed the action. That said, the mechanics were a bit hit or miss. The maps, in particular, were confusing at times, and I found myself Googling directions more than once. I hope the maps and mechanics improve as I continue through the series.

Overall, Yakuza Kiwami offers a fantastic story with a lot of depth, solid combat, and a retro vibe. I’m really looking forward to playing the rest of the series and seeing how the gameplay evolves!

The Cursed Portrait

A magical regency romance with mystery, passion, and a captivating curse!

Genre: Paranormal Romance / Regency Romance
Author: Elle St. Clair

Review:
The Cursed Portrait is a paranormal romance with a regency twist, and wow—I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did! This was my first time diving into a regency novel, and I was a little worried it might be too old-fashioned or stuffy. But let me tell you—this book was not boring in the slightest! It had plenty of steam, action, and sweet moments that kept me hooked from start to finish.

This story follows Max, an Earl, and Amelia, a talented artist who comes from a common background. Their worlds couldn’t be more different, but fate forces them together when they must break a mysterious curse. The romance between them is so well done—full of tension, chemistry, and that perfect mix of drama and passion. Plus, the regency setting adds a unique charm that makes this book stand out from other paranormal romances.

If you love a love story with magic, mystery, and an irresistible historical setting, The Cursed Portrait is absolutely worth reading. It’s one of the sweetest romances I’ve picked up in a while, and I can’t recommend it enough!

My Rating:10/10

Good Boy

A twisted tale of puppy love gone deeply, disturbingly wrong.

Genre: Horror, Psychological, Foreign
Platform: Watched on Tubi

Review:

Good Boy is an international horror film that I watched on Tubi—and let me tell you, this one takes “bizarre” to a whole new level. The story starts off somewhat normal: a woman goes on a date with a guy she met through a dating app. But then, boom—enter Frank, the man’s “pet dog”… who is actually a man in a full dog costume.

At first, you think maybe Frank is just into some weird roleplay and enjoying the lifestyle. But as the story unfolds, you start to realize something much darker is at play—possibly even kidnapping and coercion. And just when you think it can’t get any stranger, the movie hits you with a massive twist ending where the woman herself becomes a “dog” and somehow ends up with a child—leaving you with a lot of questions and a seriously uneasy feeling.

Despite the weirdness (or maybe because of it?), I really enjoyed it. It’s not gory, but it’s definitely a psychological horror that sticks with you. There’s one male-on-male spanking scene, but nothing explicitly sexual happens between Frank and his “owner,” which honestly made it even eerier.

Overall, Good Boy is a unique, disturbing, and oddly compelling ride. Perfect if you’re into psychological horror with a big side of “what did I just watch?”
