Delirium

Delirium is a movie by Universal Pictures and Bloomhouse. Delirium is about a man named Tom (played by Topher Grace) who was in a mental institution for a long time and eventually released on house arrest for 30 days. He wars a house arrest anklet and everything… He is not allowed to bring people into his home until the month is over. Nonetheless, his counselor is allowed to go visit him and he has to check in with the institution using a phone with a camera attached to it. He eventually becomes friends with Lyn (played by Genesis Rodriguez) who works at the grocery store and drops food off with them. Tom also keeps on imagining that his older brother is around even though his brother died in a fire in a prison. Tom eventually finds his mom whom he thought was dead under the house and then his brother… He beat up Lyn and then he blamed his brother for it. It was a fascinating movie and a bit of a mind f&ck. The movie had some great action and a lot of great jump scares. I watched Delirium on Netflix.

I would give it a 9/10.

The Darkest Fire

The Darkest Fire by Gene Showalter is a prequel to the Lords of the Underworld series. It focuses on the love story of Kadence the goddess of Oppression and Geryon the Guardian of Hell. Geryon was guarding the gates of hell making sure that none of the demons escaped and then Kadence bought his soul from Lucifer to free him. Geryon has a monstrous appearance with horns and claws with poison. Kadence has a very angelic appearance with long blonde hair and light porcelain skin. Kadence ended up dying at the end and then Geryon killed himself to be with her after the walls fell. Overall it was kind of beauty and the beast style of story but it was a super enjoyable read and they were both super likable.

I would give it a 9/10.

The Grudge (2020)

Grudge was made by Screen Gems and 6 films, Directed by Nicolas Pesce. It was about a grudge of a house called Ju-On and basically, if you enter the house the entity will follow you and eventually drive you crazy as you start seeing the Ju-on everywhere. The grudge of the house became the grudge when a spirit dies with anger or a grudge and then whoever enters the house gets the creature to follow the people who enter it. For example one of the detectives that first entered the house drove him so crazy that he ended up gouging his eyes out in an attempt to escape the creature/ grudge. Later on, one of the female detectives almost escaped by burning the house that had the Ju-On inside of it. Unfortunately, once someone enters the house they start to slowly go crazy. Even when she fully destroys the house, the creature shows back up again as her son. Additionally, one of the couples who lived there (the wife and her husband) started to feel like the spirits never leave the house so that’s why they stayed in the house – to feel connected to the spirit world. The wife was going to die soon and frequently saw the creature and called it Madeline.

I thought this movie was awesome and captured me after the first two minutes. It was great and had some really good jump scares. I would suggest it to anyone who enjoys a good scare.

I give it a 9/10.

Devil

Devil is a movie by Universal Pictures, with the “Story By” credit going to M. Night Shyamalam. It’s definitely a thriller… It starts off with cops investigating a man who jumped from a high-rise office building – and then the elevator got stuck. There was what they called the “devil” in the elevator where whenever the lights would go out, one person would get injured or killed. This movie obviously had a lower budget, but they did have some great action scenes. It was also fun to try to figure out who was “the bad one in the elevator (the devil).” The movie was a bit cheesy at times and sometimes the story felt a little convoluted. Everyone in the elevator had a criminal record – such as a thug – and also a person who had a history of blackmail and murder. So… it was said in the movie that “they deserved it” – which I thought was kind of screwed up.

This movie is on Amazon Prime and I will give the movie a 4/10.

The Farm

The Farm is a horror movie made in 2018 by Red Dog Films. It is about a road trip that goes wrong and they end up at a farm that farmed people instead of animals. I thought during the whole movie that it felt like a commentary on the modern day commercial animal farming. For example, they show women being milked and caged in a small cages. At the very end of the movie it showed the girlfriend of the couple that was on the road trip – and her friend – being roasted on a table with an apple in their mouths. The couple had been on their way to California and ended up going though a town where they looked for a place to go to sleep – and ended up at a cabin. Once they spent the night at the cabin they were captured by the people that worked at the farm and then Nora was captured and forcibly impregnated to be able to be milked later on. The men in the film are farmed for human “beef” as were the women – once they were unable to be milked. The man who was in charge at the Inn was also the one who ran the farm. All of the people at the farm wore creepy animal masks and none of the ones who wore masks would speak. They also served human meat at the cafe that is seen earlier in the movie.

I thought the movie was great and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a weird horror movie that makes you think.

I give it an 7/10.

The First Purge

The First Purge is made by Universal Pictures and Bloomhouse Productions. It is about the first-ever purge where for 12 hours everything is legal such as murder, arson, etc. When they participate, they get money for every illegal thing that they do – and they have contacts and a tracker in their arm. Turns out that the government was using their arm to track THEM and bought mercenaries to make more people participate in the purge. Skelator was one character that I found fascinating – as he had scars across his face and was a bit crazy. The NFFA ( New Founding Fathers of America) was a new political party that started to show up and there is an NFFA President (they were the ones that came up with the idea of the purge).

I found the concept of the movie fascinating and there was plenty of action and straight-up horror. I thoroughly enjoyed it as it brought up some interesting ideas. I give it a 10/10.

Fight Club

Fight Club is directed by David Fincher. It’s a very intense movie. It’s about a depressed man who starts to talk with a guy about starting an underground gym of sorts and things get way out of hand – especially when you realize that it’s actually just one person not two. Brad Pitt did an amazing job in it and made it a wonderful movie. A lot of older movies start to feel outdated after a while, but this one (even though it was made in 1999) is still very relevant today. All of the storylines are still very impactful. Actually, the tag lines in it are still used in pop culture today.

I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good action movie along with a good bit of a thriller in it too. I loved the project mayhem part – it reminded me of a lot of the Purge series.

I would give this movie a 7/10.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody is made by Fox Studios and Regency. I saw it in a theater. Bohemian Rhapsody follows Freddie Mercury’s life from working at an airport to Live Aid. I have been a Queen fan since I was young so I was super excited to see it. I don’t normally re-watch things but I could totally re-watch this over and over again. Rami Malek did a fantastic job in this movie and the movie really made you go through an emotional roller coaster. Bonus: at the way end of the movie, they showed an actual Queen concert.

I am not normally a huge biopic fan but this one was really special.

I give it a 10/10.

Grave of the Fireflies

Grave of the Fireflies is made by Studio Ghibli and distributed by Sentai Filmworks. It was based during and after WW2 in Japan. It began with a boy dying in a train station found by a janitor with a candy tin in his hand. It cuts to him and his younger sister Sesuko in spirt form and then they go on a train. Then it cuts to the past to when their home town was destroyed by a bombing … and they go on an adventure. They end up in a shelter under a rock. Fast forward to when Sesuko eventually dies from starvation and Seita, her older brother, buries her. He then does a ceremony of sorts on top of a hill over-looking modern-day Kobe.

I overall loved this movie. It was definitely darker than most Ghilbi films that I have seen in the past, but it had a very heartfelt ending- and also a very interesting take on death.

I would give this an 8/10.
